Analogies of Reality

Rebuilding Ourselves

When we attempt to give our self-image an artificial boost there is a greater than 50% chance that the reverse will occur. Building our self-image artificially is not worth the risk.

If we choose to build a new place to live, we can only build that place on the land that we own. If we choose to build a new life, we can only build that life within the parameters of our current physical existence. If for example, we are a waitress in the Midwest, we cannot become an Italian born male soccer player in the same lifetime. When we make the decision to build a new life, we need to consider what we are really setting out to achieve.

If we choose to renovate the existing structure of our life, we will need to rip parts of the old structure of our life away. We can then renovate, and build upon what remains of the old structure of our life.

If we choose to completely rebuild the structure of our life, we must demolish the old structure of our life, completely. We must then clear away the debris from the old structure of our life, which is a painstakingly slow process.

Whilst we clear away the debris from the old structure of our life, we must exist within a temporary structure. Whilst still existing within a temporary structure, we must lay solid foundations, before we even begin to construct a new structure for our life.

Rebuilding a new structure for our life is not as simple as rebuilding a new structure for our life appears. We will experience setbacks, bad weather will cause delays in construction, and at times we will question if we have made the right decision, and if the new structure for our life will ever be complete.

Whilst the new structure for our life is being constructed, our construction site is a mess. There are unused building materials, some unneeded, some unsuitable, some broken, and some faulty lying around our construction site. There are holes which need to be filled. There are unclean, rough, and unfinished surfaces wherever we look.

There are times when construction of the new structure for our life moves ahead so slowly, that we will wonder if the construction of the new structure for our life will ever be finished. We will want to give up, we will want to discontinue building the new structure for our life. There are other times, when we will forge ahead and easily complete much construction within a sort period of time.

Until construction of the new structure for our life is complete, we have no where to exist, other than within the temporary structure which we have built for ourselves. Even when the new structure for our life appears to be finished, there are many rough edges to be smoothed. When the rough edges of the new structure for our life have been smoothed, there is more to do. The new structure for our life may look finished, but the new structure for our life is not finished. There are fixtures and fittings to be installed, services to be connected, and minor faults to be rectified.

However, even after we installed the fixtures and fittings, connected the services, and rectified the minor faults, the new structure for our life is not always finished. The new structure for our life may appear to be complete, but the rubbish, the debris left from the construction of the new structure for our life, must be cleared away, because it is dangerous to leave such debris lying around.

Our physical existence, is the structure in which our soul resides. The difficulty in building a new structure for our life is that we are never quite finished. We are forever inspecting construction, and discovering the odd thing which needs to be replaced, rectified or altered. There always seems to be something more to do. However, there will come a time when construction of the new structure for our life is complete.

There will come a time when we are ready to move into the new structure for our life which we have built, and it is only when we are ready to move into the new structure for our life which we have built, that we can begin furnishing the new structure for our life.

What we find at this point, is that furniture which we acquired whilst building the new structure for our life, does not quite fit within the new structure for our life. We have to make the hard decision to dispose of the furniture which we acquired, believing that the furniture would fit within the new structure for our life, because when the new structure for our life is complete, it is obvious that the new furniture does not fit, and that we cannot make the furniture fit.

We need to be ruthless with whatever furniture remains, from our previous structure. Some of our old furniture will fit into the new structure for our life, and some of our old furniture will not fit into new structure for our life.

We have to remove the existing furniture first. How can we fit new furniture into the new structure for our life, when the new structure for our life is cluttered with old furniture, temporary furniture, and furniture acquired in good faith which does not fit?

When we have completed the new structure for our life, we are tired. Working on the construction has taken much from us, and we are sore from minor aches and pains from injuries which we suffered during the construction of the new structure for our life. Even after the new structure for our life is complete, we cannot appreciate our achievement, until we move into the new structure for our life.

We stand looking at the completed structure for our life. For as long as we can remember, all of our time has been spent working on the construction of the new structure for our life, and we wonder what we will do now that the structure for our life is completed. All that we need to do now, is live within our new structure for our life.

If we are to move into the structure of the new life which we have created, we cannot do so by holding onto anything, or anyone that clearly does not fit into the structure of the new life, which we have created.
